Recoilnaut is a 2D Physics-based space shooter prototype where movement is primarily done through the recoil of your weapon.

This project was made to be submitted for the OU-GDA 2023 "Four-Colors" Summer Game Jam. In attempt to adhere with the theme, only four colors were used for all of the art assets (Which were all made for this game jam as well), with some exceptions such as the black canvas background, and some of the menu button hover colors which were there by default.

You play as a little robot guy(?) who was a janitor on an alien ship. As the game takes place entirely in space (also in an asteroid field), you can probably hypothesize what happened to the ship.  Who knows where he found the gun though.

If you enjoyed or hated the game please feel free to let me know. Any suggestions are likely to be implemented or, at the very least, heavily pondered!

Ay! Nice game. The inspiration is inspired, and the controls felt really nice. I knew I was damning myself whenever I fired multiple blasts in the same direction, but desperate times require desperate measures, so it added a really nice risk vs reward mechanic. For the endless mode, I'd like to see how the game could get progressively difficult as the score goes up. For instance, the spawn rate of asteroids could increase (if it doesn't already do that, hard to tell). I think this idea has a lot of room to grow as well, I'd love to play it with an assault rifle and shoot off a bunch of mini blasts. Also, the game reminds me of a really funny joke:

Appreciate the feedback! I had a similar idea with the risk v. reward mechanic; to introduce a melee weapon you could switch to in which the damage is scaled by the velocity of the player lol

I'll definitely be introducing automatic weapons and other shenaniguns so stay tuned!

Also that joke's almost as good as:
